What is Oxidative Stress?

Custom Search

As you may have already guessed " oxidative stress ” has something to do with oxygen. What you may not be aware of is oxygen is highly reactive when interacting with other elements.

When your body reacts with oxygen as you breathe, your cells produce energy. As a by-product of this reaction, highly reactive molecules known as Free Radicals are produced. As these free radicals collide with other molecules within cells they cause oxidative damage to proteins, membranes and genes.

Other factors such as pollution will also trigger the production of free radicals.

In order to counter this stress and defend itself, your body produces Antioxidants.

The job of these antioxidants is to neutralize the free radicals and stop the formation of others.

Unfortunately, external factors such as diet, smoking and pollution as well as your own genetic makeup hamper your body’s ability to create antioxidants and gives rise to the need for supplementation.

Again, not just any supplementation will do. You need to make sure the antioxidants you take contain all the required cofactors or your body will not recognize the nutrient and you are just wasting your money.
