Nutrition Concepts

Concepts, unlike facts, are not so easy to remember. When we talk about nutrition concepts, let’s think of them in terms of what has been referred to as a “square meal.” Since a square has four sides it’s easy to think of a square meal as having four elements.

These four elements should all be part of any healthy diet.

So far you have learned the philosophy to follow when selecting health supplements. Now we will discuss four proven principles or elements that should be adhered to when selecting the food you eat.

  • A Balanced Diet

The first element, popularly known as the Food Pyramid , will start you in the right direction when considering a balanced diet for your family.

  • Raw Foods
  • Although this area of nutrition is not fully understood, it has been well documented that Raw Foods produce benefits that are superior to cooked foods. On this page we will discuss what effect consuming raw foods will have on your health and why.

  • Fat in Foods
  • Most diet programs suggest limiting calories or counting fat grams but a better and more practical solution is to watch the percentage of fat in the foods you purchase.

  • Glycemic Index Chart
  • The fourth element or concept is known as the Glycemic Index. What is the glycemic index and why is it important that we familiarize ourselves with the foods listed?

    Instead of Counting Calories ...

    ... change your buying habits.

A good understanding of these concepts will assist you in modifying your buying habits and ultimately create a healthier lifestyle for you and your family. When your cupboards are filled with healthy nutritional food choices, it will be easier to avoid fast foods and snacks when preparing meals.
