Since you have searched out this page on herbal medicine, you probably already know that plant based supplements are experiencing a growing popularity in North America.
At the same time the interest in “alternative” medicine has reached an all time high. We are finally returning to nature for answers to our health woes.
Alternative Medicine
Would you be surprised to know that what we refer to as “alternate” medicine is actually considered traditional in the rest of the world?
Even in Europe, many countries have approved herbal medicine to be used as prescribed as well as over the counter drugs.
Many people refuse to take traditional drugs, preferring to rely on natural products to relieve them of their aches and pains as well as their overall health and well being.
This trend toward "natural" remedies has the added advantage of avoiding a condition known as
"Drug Induced Nutrient Depletion"
We Had a Good System
“Herbal Medicine” has been around for thousands of years and has flourished as recently as the 16th century when botanical gardens grew medicinal plants for use in medical schools.
It was not until the 19th century that botanical healing began to fade. Scientific methods were producing new drugs and traditional botanical healing was dismissed as quackery.
In the early 1960s the public interest returned to natural health and herbal products. This renewed interest has grown exponentially and now modern-day scientists are looking at the effects of various herbs and the components which provide the perceived benefits.
But We Messed with It
Unfortunately, many scientists tend to isolate these components from the rest of the herb. They then go about creating their formulation excluding the essential co-factors and primary ingredients necessary to create a
synergistic interaction
in your body.
They even went as far as to try to copy nature's perfect formula using chemicals because they are cheaper. I think you will agree with me that this was a bad idea. My page
"Obey the Laws of Nature"
will give you some more information on my reasons.
So Let's Continue "Naturally"
Over the course of the next few pages we will look at some of the more common herbs and what is scientifically known about them. You don’t know it yet but you will soon gain an appreciation for the wonders that are available to you through nature’s bounty, without resorting to chemicals.
These pages are not yet completed. As each page is added the name of the herb will become a link to it. Please be patient as this is a work in progress.
