The glycemic index is not a list of good and bad foods. Think of it as an indication of which foods raise blood sugar levels in your body.
Low glycemic foods are preferred but it is OK to eat medium glycemic foods if you combine them with foods from the low end of the scale. Eat high glycemic foods sparingly if at all.
The following Glycemic Index chart will give you an idea of which foods you should avoid. I have broken the chart into two parts. Click on the link at the bottom of the page to see the other half.

European-style grains or cracked or sprouted whole wheat breads are

In general, course whole
grain cereals and compact noodle like high bran cereals (e.g.
All-Bran, Fiber one) are low glycemic. For oatmeal porridges, course
grain is low glycemic; medium/fine grain ("5 minute" variety) is
medium; instant or "quick" oats are high glycemic. Avoid flaked and
puffed cereals. |
