Probiotics
The Friendly Bacteria

My second recommendation stems from the fact that the friendly bacteria in our intestines have been depleted. There are about three pounds worth of these bacterial strains in a healthy human intestine but according to recent studies, most of us have less than half this amount.

Friendly bacteria help rid your body of toxins, aid in digestion and energy production, and perhaps more importantly, protect you from disease. In fact, they are often called “probiotics” meaning “favoring life.” (As opposed to “antibiotic” meaning “against life.”)

“Enzyme depletion along with the depletion of friendly flora will combine to bring about the plague of the 21st century.”
Chemist Stan Bynum, PhD

Without our friendly bacteria, we no longer have a second line of defense to protect our systems and we are again vulnerable to infections that we once believed were a thing of the past.

The fact is infectious diseases are on the rise. In the 1988 U.S. Surgeon General’s report infectious diseases did not even make the top 100 causes of death list. Today it is number six. These diseases are reemerging at a frightening pace.

The Wrong Approach

Ironically, the strategy used to combat disease-causing bacteria also puts us at risk. Antibiotics, routinely administered to kill harmful bacteria, also destroy the helpful strains. Yet antibiotic prescriptions are on the rise, particularly for children.

In addition, we are likely exposed to antibiotics given to the various animals we eat. Half of the 32 billion pounds of antibiotics produced are given to animals to cure infections and for faster growth.

Friendly bacteria also take a hit from laxatives, birth control pills, strong antibacterial herbs, frequent fasting, eating disorders, and chlorine and fluoride in water. In addition, carbonated drinks, coffee and alcohol, poor diets, even aging, stress, and emotional upsets destroy the bacteria we need for health.

What Do The Experts Say?

Dr. Khem Shahani, the world’s leading probiotics expert, from the University of Nebraska, has done more research and published more peer-reviewed journal articles on probiotics than any other individual.

According to research by Dr. Shahani and others, single species of bacteria are not enough to be effective. Yet many companies still produce probiotics products that contain only one species or one type of bacteria.

2.6 billion reasons

There are 2.6 billion reasons to take the "Total Flora" product I recommend.

That’s the number of good bacteria found in just two capsules

Any probiotics product you buy should include twelve species of bacteria and they should be stabilized. A “stabilized” strain is resilient enough to withstand the conditions that are present during the digestion process.

They are of no use to you if they can’t even survive the environment in which they are needed.
