Eating Raw Foods and Enzymes is the second of four proven elements that should be adhered to when selecting the food you eat.
The other three elements are A Balanced Diet, Fat in Foods and the Glycemic Index Chart. Links to these other elements can be found at the bottom of this page.
You may have noticed that we seem to keep coming back to raw foods and raw food health. The obvious reason for this is foods in their natural raw state contain many nutrients which we know are needed by your body.
What is not so commonly known is that raw foods also contain beneficial components which do not survive cooking or processing in any way.
Although this area of nutrition is not fully understood, it has been well documented that eating raw foods will produce benefits that are superior to eating cooked foods.
Raw foods come complete with all the enzymes required to break them down into a format that your body can use.
In other words, the ammunition your body needs to process these foods are readily available within the food itself.
Eat some raw food with every meal because ...
Northwestern University’s physiological laboratory confirmed the “Law of Adaptive Secretion of Digestive Enzymes.” (A phrase coined by Dr Edward Howell)
This law states that if the food you eat still has the enzymes intact (raw food), your body will not need to produce as many enzymes to digest that food.
Dozens of university laboratories have now confirmed this law so we now know that if you eat raw foods you are helping your body to maintain health, prevent disease and recover quicker.
Pasteurization and Processing food (such as white flour) also kills enzymes.
The highly complex protein molecules known as enzymes are destroyed in the cooking or processing of foods.
Enzymes die when food is heated to over 118º F
These enzymes are naturally designed to help break down and digest the food. Without them, your body must pull digestive enzymes from its own supply to do the job. Since your body has a limited ability to produce these digestive enzymes your supply becomes depleted.
To make matters worse, your supply is also reduced by carbonated beverages, stress and exercise.
You should also avoid carbonated drinks.
Once your supply of digestive enzymes is exhausted, your body will steal from its reserves of metabolic enzymes. Metabolic enzymes, as you learned from “The Magic of Enzymes," are supposed to be used for functions such as fighting disease and repairing your body.
The resulting metabolic enzyme deficiency can lead to premature aging, degeneration and disease.
This could be the reason degenerative diseases are on the increase and are appearing at earlier stages of life than ever before.
